📝 This meeting offers our
members the opportunity to decompress from the stress of college, socialize
with other AMA members, and learn more about WVU and AMA. We will also discuss
our other upcoming semester events.
PAST MEETINGS & EVENTS
February 2021: Alumni Panel
WVU AMA Alumni spoke with our chapter about their experiences in the
workforce and gave advice about job searching, networking, and finding that
work/life balance. Our incredible guests included Janet Scarcelli (Recreational Therapist, Addictions Counselor, & Marketing Consultant), William McDermitt (Mortgage Banker, Quicken Loans), Emily Broughton (Account Manager, Gartner), Will Carswell (Senior Consultant, Numerator), and Ray Meyer (Marketing Manager, Solar Energy World).
January 2021
The Spring Kickoff meeting featured guest speaker,
Hampton Cokeley, who is currently a marketing manager at Dell Technologies. He discussed an array of topics including how to give your LinkedIn
profile a competitive edge, insight into interviews, and other areas of
marketing such as product marketing, sales enablement marketing, and field
marketing.
November 2020
Our last (virtual) meeting of the year was our fall social. To tie our meeting into current events, we discussed personal branding with
past presidential campaigns. We hada quick and fun personal branding activity
between members by discussing how we would brand various celebrities as presidential
candidates. Other nonpartisan games will include themed bingo and Mad Libs.
September 2020
Our Fall '20 Kickoff meeting was held via Zoom Webinar, 9/09 at 6pm. We covered
important information about the AMA, membership, events, and updates about
our student-led Executive Board.
December 2019
Our December meeting featured the owner of a beloved Morgantown staple
- the
Cupcakerie
. She spoke about developing her business and co-marketing with other companies
(e.g., Morgantown Brewing Company and the Morgantown Cupcake & Craft
Beer Fest). Her marketing communication plans are exemplars for the business

October 2019
Our October meeting included WVU's very own
Matthew Shreve- multimedia specialist with
Adventure WV and Campus Recreation. He spoke about his career development
which included experiences from his days as an Apple employee to his current
role at West Virginia University. He also described the strategic use of storytelling-
a compelling tool for marketers to improve consumer engagement.
September 2019
Our first AMA meeting of the 2019-20 academic year included guests from a
Chambers College of Business partner, Stanley Black & Decker (
link). Sarah Halvoren, Maria Williams, and Zachary Hannah spoke to AMA and
Sales Club members on Wednesday, September 11th. They discussed marketing
internship tracks at SBD and taught attendeesess how to create a personal brand.

Winter 2019
Our Winter '19 Case Competition featured a local company,
i6 | Dalb (Kearneysville, WV)
Dalb.com
i6 heard
your positioning ideas and marketing plan for a total of four (4) WVU
Sports fan bases. The winning WVU team had the opportunity to accompany
i6 executives as they make their formal presentation to the Director of WVU Athletics
(Shane Lyons) and his team.
💰
Teams won $1,000!! There were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place
winners.
📍 Judging took place in the B&E on the first floor (Room 128, large classroom)

University of Cincinnati AMA Regional Conference: November 2018

Lindner College of Business AMA at the University of Cincinnati
⌚ The Regional Conference began at 12:30pm with a
tour of three leading advertising agencies. Students learned about how
agencies are innovating with data, insights, and branding.
🎉 The 'Agency Crawl' was followed by a
Networking Social Friday afternoon from 7-9pm.
📝 On Saturday, November 10th, there were two
Keynote Speakers and breakout sessions with marketing practitioners.
🏆 There were
two competitions: (1) the Marketing Strategy competition (with teams)
and (2) a solo Perfect Pitch competition.
👚 All WVU AMA participating members received a WVU | AMA polo. (Men's and Women's
styles and sizes are available)
🏨 For this trip, we stayed overnight in Cincinnati for one night.
💰 = $20 registration fee per person (before November 1st) or $25 (after November
1st) + the cost of a hotel (approx. $50-60). Transportation and meals are included.
WVU Students Sean Griffin (Sophomore) and Becky Giordano (Freshman) placed
3rd in the Marketing Strategy competition!
November 2018
Our November meeting featured Mr. Brian Arnett, owner of Mountain State Brewing
Company. His presentation, The
Business of Beer, covered the marketing strategies and challenges in
the craft beer industry. Founded in 2005, Brian has worked with his stepbrother
(Willie Lehman) to introduce craft brews to the Mountain State of West Virginia.
Today, Mountain State Brewing Co. enjoys the largest distributing microbrewery
in the state! We also welcomed Mr. Brent Bishop, Ph.D. student in WVU's Leadership
Studies program, who gave an excellent talk on
Followership in the Workplace.
October 2018
Our October AMA meeting featured Ms. Cheyenne Svihla (College Unit Director)
and Ms. Bethany Laslavic (Director of Recruitment and Selection) at Northwestern
Mutual. Their presentation, Networking & Your Personal Brand, showcased
a helpful tool called '
Creating Your Personal Brand Statement
' that all marketing students should consider using for resumes, LinkedIn
profiles, and during networking events.
September 2018
Our September AMA meeting featured Mr. Zak Ranson, WebFX Internet Marketing
Specialist. Zak is a B&E Marketing Alum and now lives in Harrisburg PA to
pursue his career as a digital marketer!
